Soil Conservation Directorate is responsible for integrated planning, research, training & evaluation of all Soil Conservation Schemes and watershed management in the state. In addition to, the department is also responsible for the execution of all the schemes of Soil Conservation except those within the limit of the reserve and protected forest. Recently improved irrigation system has also been added in its responsibility for the development of Rice Fellow and Waste land in the state.
The Director of Soil Conservation is head of the Directorate of Soil Conservation. The agriculture & Sugarcane Development Department is the administrative department of the Government for the Directorate of Soil Conservation.
The Directorate of Soil Conservation consisting four general establishment, having a total number of 1023 Officers/ Staff.

1. Head Quarter.
Head Quarter of directorate of Soil Conservation is situated in Kirishi Bhawan, Kanke Road, Ranchi - 8. Director of Soil Conservation is head of the Head Quarter. After duly formation of the Directorate of Soil Conservation in Jharkhand Shri. R.P. Singh (JAS) is the First Director to take over the Charge w.e.f. March, 08 ‘ 2009’.
After the reconstitution of the United Bihar 24 (twenty four) posts of Directorate assigned to the State of Jharkhand. In addition to it, 8 (eight) new posts had been created in Jharkhand in favour of work and people of Jharkhand.
